Douglas Raymond Williams of Kiawah Island, S.C. Douglas Raymond Williams, 81, of Kiawah Island, S.C., entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 13, 2008. He passed away at home surrounded by family and loved ones. Mr. Williams is predeceased by his wife, Gwynne Williams who passed away in 2007; his parents, Phyllis and Arthur Williams, Leicester, England. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Johanna and Jack Afarian, Vestal, N.Y.; daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Chris Redden, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; a daughter, Elizabeth Williams, Charleston, S.C. Mr. Williams is also survived by a brother, Norman Williams who resides in Southern California; and six grandchildren. Mr. Williams was born in Leicester, England in 1927 where he served for three years in the British Royal Navy. In 1956, he relocated to Binghamton, N.Y., where he was founding partner of Matco Electric, leaving in 1975 to form his own electrical contracting company. He was a longtime member of the Vestal Hills Country Club, serving as the club President in the early 1980s. In 1984, he retired to Kiawah Island to spend his remaining years on the beach, playing golf and simply enjoying his family. Mr. Williams was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed by all. Funeral Services for friends and family will be held in his honor on Saturday, September 20, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the French Huguenot Church, 136 Church Street, Charleston, S.C.
