CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. Douglas Paul Smith, 65, of Clifton Park, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2006 after a courageous battle with metastatic prostate cancer. Mr. Smith was the son of the late Paul L. and Marie (Metz) Smith. He was born in Albany, N.Y. and spent most of his life in the Capital District. He attended both Concordia Prep and Concordia College in Bronxville, N.Y. and later served in the United States Army. Most of Mr. Smith's professional career was spent in the sales organizations of New York Telephone and AT&T Long Lines. After retirement from AT&T, he became a licensed real estate broker. Mr. Smith had many diverse interests, including a love of flying that culminated in earning a private pilot's license. Mr. Smith's faith played a central role in his life. He worshipped at the Christ Community Reformed Church in Clifton Park, where he held several important positions, including that of church elder. Mr. Smith is survived by his beloved wife Justine; sons, Mark and Gary; stepchildren, Michele and Michael; and was the cherished grandfather of Connor, Erin and Tommy. Mr. Smith's family would like to extend its most heartfelt gratitude to the 3rd floor nursing staff of Saratoga Hospital and the wonderful people at Saratoga County Hospice. Your kindness and compassion helped us through a very difficult experience. A service celebrating Mr. Smith's life, along with a luncheon, will be held at the Christ Community Reformed Church on Monday, April 24 beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
