Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 951 Forrest Ave., Gadsden, for Ms. Dorothy Williams, 86, Gadsden, who died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009. Burial will be in Lincoln Hill Cemetery. Watson & Sons Funeral Home is in charge. Ms. Williams was a native and resident of Gadsden, where she returned following her retirement from teaching 40 and a half years in the Tuscaloosa County School System. She taught high school political sciences at the Tuscaloosa County Training School (Riverside High, Northport, and at Northside High School, Samatha). Affectionately called Miss D.A. by her students, she was a model teacher. She was a 1939 graduate of Carver High School and its first Miss Carver. Ms. Williams received her B.S. degree from Alabama A&M College and her Master's of Arts for teaching from Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind. Ms. Williams and her specialness will forever live in the hearts and memories of those whose lives she touched. She is survived by her niece, whom she fondly called her daughter, Dr. Minta Maxine (Ronald) Downing, Detroit, Mich.; nieces, Dr. Dorothy Ann Williams, East Lansing, Mich., Emily Louise (Henry) Copelin, Atlanta, Ga., Minnie Ruth Johnson, Detroit, Mich., and Jackie Terrell, Gadsden; nephews, John L. (Gwendolyn) Williams and Rayvon (Lynch) Williams, Gadsden; great-nieces, Angelita (Jaison) Downing Busby, Gouthfield, Mich., and Cheryl (Tommy) Dudley Watson, College Park, Ga.; great-nephews, Kenneth Green, Okemos, Mich., and Michael Dudley, Inwood, N.Y.; loving caregiver, Reba Harrison, Gadsden; special friends, Rosa (Push) Cochrane and Joann Moss, Tuscaloosa, Josephine Wills, Gadsden, and Tessie Sawyer Bush, Detroit, Mich.; and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church.
