MURPHY Dorothy Rhea King "Granny", 94, widow of JC Murphy, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Sayre Christian Village. She was born December 8, 1919 in Mercer County, KY to the late Robert Wilson and Verdie Mae Moreland King. Dorothy spent her working years in food services. She began her career at the Shaker Town Guest House then moved on to, The Kentuckian Hotel, The Springs Hotel then owned and operated Murphy's at the River with her late husband JC. Besides Dorothy's parents and late husband she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Mildred Perkins and Wilma Grimes. She leaves behind three children, James (Donna) Murphy, Robert (Harriett) Murphy and Doris (Joe) Grant. Dorothy is further survived by 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 28th from 3-6pm at Milward-Southland Drive. Funeral service will be Monday, September 29th at 10am also at Milward-Southland Drive. Bill Miller, Chaplain for Sayre Christian Village will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. John and Brian Grant, Jamie, Rob and Preston Murphy, Clayton King and Bret Schlansky will serve as pallbearers.
