Dorothy was born on May 3, 1926 at home on Little Bear Lake (now Glamour Lake) near Gooderham, ON, where she spent her early years. At the age of 16, she left home to work as a maid, later moving to the YWCA in Peterborough to attend Business College. After graduation she worked as a secretary for an insurance company. She was active in the Young Peoples of George St. United Church. Here she made many life-long friends and met her first husband "Charlie". They were married in 1951. The ensuing years brought 4 children into their lives. In 1962 the family moved to Smiths Falls. She spent the next 11 years caring for her busy family, sewing and knitting many cherished treasures. She was active in the UCW and choir at Trinity United. In 1973, Dorothy fulfilled a lifetime dream of becoming a nurse. She graduated as an RNA at the age of 47. She worked in this capacity until retirement in 1991. As the years passed, 8 grandchildren came into her life, followed by 2 great-granddaughters, all of whom she loved dearly. In 1986, Dorothy was devastated by Charlie's death, but after 5 years of widowhood she married Ralph and they have spent the last 18 years together. She loved to travel and was fortunate to have visited many countries with various family members. Dorothy was loved by all who knew her and will be sadly missed.
