WILMINGTON -- Dorothy M. Turner, 98, a lifelong resident of Wilmington, died Friday Oct. 21, 2005, at her home surrounded by her friends, family and her favorite feline, Daisy Mae.She was born in Wilmington on Jan. 22, 1907, the daughter of Peter and Matilda T. (Davison) Wimmelmann. She graduated from Wilmington High School, class of 1926.Dorothy married U.S. Army Lt. Charles E. Turner on June 23, 1930 in Richmond, Va. Lt. Col. Turner died February 11, 1969.Dorothy loved exploring. She enjoyed mountain climbing and one time explored an active volcano. She traveled extensively in Japan and elsewhere after World War II, enjoying horseback riding in both Vermont and Japan and was a witness to the tribunal following World War II in Tokyo, Japan. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, collecting antiques, walks in the woods while studying nature and painting. She loved entertaining friends and would stay in touch with many of her friends over the years, following each generation.She is survived by her niece, Frieda Wimmelmann-Binnick and her nephew, Peter Wimmelmann, both of Wilmington, two great-nephews and a great-niece.At Dorothy’s request, graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m., October 25, 2005, in the family lot in Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington.
