Obituary of Dorothy-M. Peters


Dorothy M. Callahan (nee Peters), 81, of Summit, N.J., passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Thursday, June 10, 2010, in Overlook Hospital, Summit, N.J. Visitation will be held in Paul Ippolito Summit Memorial, 7 Summit Ave., Summit, N.J., on Sunday, June 13, from 2 to 6 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Teresa of Avila Church, Summit, on Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by interment in Clover Leaf Cemetery, Woodbridge, N.J. For directions or more information, please visit ippolitofuneralhomes.com. Dorothy was born in New York City and lived in Jersey City, N.J., for many years before moving to Summit 15 years ago. In Summit, she was a member of the Busy Bees at Summit Senior Housing. She loved to paint and crochet, and her charitable work included making blankets for babies and scarves for the Armed Forces. Dorothy was a restaurateur and owned the Belepique Restaurant in North Bergen, N.J., in the mid-1970s. She then worked as the manager of the Coach House Restaurant in North Bergen for 25 years before retiring 20 years ago. All who knew her remember her generous spirit, smile, and her great laugh. Dorothy was the loving mother of Jean Eisen and husband, Rick, of Bergenfield, N.J., John Callahan of Livingston, N.J., Irene Weinstein and husband, Richard, of Warren, N.J., Ann Rojas and husband, David, of Old Bridge, N.J., Paul Callahan and wife, Wendy, of Passaic, N.J., Mary Callahan of Massachusetts, and the late Susan Callahan Santana, and Linda Callahan. She was also the cherished grandmother of 14 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Adelaide Peters; brother, William Peters, and her husband, James Francis Callahan. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to World Vision, P.O.
