<!-- FH = Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home -->Dorothy Louise Hines HendersonDorothy Louise Hines Henderson (July 3, 1915 to January 23, 2012) made a difference in the lives of the people in the wild-west and dusty oil community of Odessa, Texas and her family. Her community service began in 1929&#8212;the year that her family moved to town from Breckenridge, Texas and originally from Scio, Ohio where she was born. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Odessa, attended Odessa High School, and continued her education at McMurray College in Abilene, Texas.Louise and her husband, Bill, owned Odessa Camera Center, raised three daughters, Ann McCoy of Springfield, Missouri, Jan Crawford of Granbury, Texas and Cynthia Scott of Round Rock, Texas. She continued to be an important part of the lives of her grandchildren, Ryan McCoy of Springfield, Missouri and Matt McCoy of Overland Park, Kansas, Jason Scott, Round Rock, Texas and Justin Scott, Longview, Texas; her great grandchildren, Mallorie McCoy, Cameron McCoy, Callie McCoy , Sara McCoy; her nieces, Marsha Hachtel of Allen, Texas, Beverly Hildebrand of McKinney, Texas, her nephew, Tommy Smith of Bradenton, Florida, her sister, Jean Hunt of McKinney, Texas and Joy Smith of Bradenton, Florida. Her community service background began when her mother and daddy, Edna and Tex Hines and her sisters, Jean Hunt and Joy Smith encouraged the Ector County School Board to have sports activities for girls. Her dad offered the supplies for implementation of sports for girls, and the first tennis court was built at OHS. Louise comes from a family that was interested in community service and was a wonderful example of this throughout her life. She and Bill lived in Odessa until they moved to Springfield, Missouri in 2001. Bill passed away in July 2005. They attended Wesley United Methodist in Springfield and were members of Dogwood Class and Faith Walking Sunday School class taught by Reverend Jim Massey.Louise Henderson's major accomplishments besides being a wonderful wife and mother include the following: founder of the Odessa Art Museum now the Ellen Noel Art Museum, founder of Fiesta Del Arte, member and past President of the Ellen Noel Art Museum Board of Directors, member of the Advisory Board of the Ellen Noel Art Museum, contributor of the founding of the Globe Theatre, founder and past President of the Juliet Society of the Globe Theatre, member and past President of the Board of Directors of the Globe Theatre, 2000 Golden Globe Award Recipient for Outstanding Service to the Globe Theatre, Sunday School teacher at First United Methodist Church, Odessa, Texas for 43 years, 1994 Pastor's Award for Volunteer Service First United Methodist Church Odessa, 1948 Charter member and past President of the Marion White Study Club (formerly the Modern Mothers Study Club), 1948 Charter member and past President of Modern Gardeners, 1970 accredited National Flower Show judge, 1994 Odessa Cultural Council of the Arts Volunteer of the Year Award, 1991 W.D. Noel Philanthropy Award, Patron of the Permian Playhouse, Patron of the Odessa-Midland Symphony, Volunteer of the United Way campaigns, Volunteer for the Heart Association Drives, member of the Centennial Wagon Train Cookie Committee, member of the W.D. Noel Toast Committee, member and past President of the Odessa Forum, member and past President of the Odessa Cultural Council, member of the Heritage Cookbook Committee, member of the National Council of State Garden Clubs of America, Lifetime National Flower Show Judge, member and past President of the Advance Judges Study Club, board member of Texas Garden Clubs, Inc., board member of District 1 Garden Club, member of National Wildflower Research Center Austin, member of National Plant Society of Texas, member of the GFWC and Texas Federation of Women's Club and 2000 First Lady of Odessa. Louise had many interests and hobbies, which consisted of sewing, making clothes and dance recital costumes for her daughters and costumes for the Globe Theatre, cooking for her family, different organizations and over the campfire on family camping vacations to Colorado. She also enjoyed hunting and fly fishing and taking pictures. Louise loved home and table decorating, flower arranging, carpentry, gardening, theatre and passing out rolls at the WOW dinners at Wesley United Methodist Church, Springfield, Missouri.Louise gave hours of her time and money to further these many community organizations that she was affiliated with for 50 plus years. She continued her involvement with her family and friends, hobbies and interests throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" T. Henderson, Jr. Louise's daughters, Ann, Jan, Cynthia and the extended family appreciate the loving care given by the staff at the Waterford Active Senior Community, Ravenwood Assisted Living and Quail Creek Nursing Home. The service will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, with The Reverend Jim Massey officiating, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Wesley United Methodist Church.
