Dorothy Lee November 14, 1929 - October 30, 2014 Kite, GA- Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Rowland Lee, age 84, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Kite Baptist Church with interment to follow at Kite City Cemetery. Rev. Burton Dixon and Rev. Allen Meeks will officiate. Mrs. Lee was born November 14, 1929 in Wrightsville, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Marcus And Annie Mae Claxton Rowland, her husband, John Hubert Lee, a brother, James Rowland, three sisters, Virginia Sheppard, Myrtice Carroll, Joyce Cheatham. The words "mother and grandmother" don't even come close to describing how much Dorothy meant to her family. She was a remarkable woman. In her 84 years of life, she's been our taskmaster and our confidant. She taught us an awful lot, perhaps more important lessons than any education could. She was flawless in her ways and always went out of the way to make sure her family was taken care of. There were never any strings attached which is why we always felt loved. She taught us a lot about strength and endurance... Living through pain with a shrug and a smile. Bouncing back from every illness with the spitfire vigor and constant activity. And when our "father/grandfather passed away 23 years ago, we all worried so much about her, but she worried more about us. While many in her position may have become weaker, we saw her become stronger. She never stopped seeing the world through the eyes they shared, but she lived on because this family was her life and we were still here. We gave her strength, but she gave us more. She was always the first to know about anything in our family. She'd give you the rundown of what everyone in the family was up to and the exact date she last saw you and questioned why it had been so long since the last visit. She taught us a lot about love and the meaning of family. Sometimes it was nothing more than what she had for supper the night before, regardless of whether or not we were interested. But more often, it was the way she showed her unconditional love to not only blood relatives, but to every she came in contact with. To her family, was not genetic, but a feeling. Once you were loved by someone she loved, she loved you. She was not just our mother and grandmother. She was the central hub of our family. The foundation of our lives. She lived a long, full and happy 84 years. I am sure that today, she is looking down on us, with our father and grandfather at her side, smiling because we are all here together. We will miss her, but her spirit and strength lives on in each of us and in the lives that she touched. Our family has a strong bond because of her. She has never been just "our mother and grandmother, but our guardian angel, our friend and our inspiration. Mrs. Lee passed away Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Coliseum Medical Center. She is survived by her two sons, Jerry (Deborah) Lee of Kite and Tommy (Pam) Lee of Atlanta, a daughter, Diane (Nick) Ivey of Kite, a sister, Mary Ann (Bernie) Brausch of Marietta, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the funeral home.
