Dorothy Jean Smith, a resident of Spring Valley for the past 40 years passed away on May 18, 2007 at the age of 73. She was born on January 17, 1934 in Brighton, Alabama to Rev. Andrew and Annie Lockett McCaslin. Dorothy received her bachelors degree in Nursing in 1960 from Tuskegee University. She was a member of St. Charles AME Zion Church in Sparkill. She was employed for many years as a registered nurse at the Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw, NY. She is predeceased by her first husband ,Cleophus Howze, Sr. Dorothy is survived by her husband Alfred Smith, a daughter Giselle Elizabeth and Karl Simeon. Two sons; Cleophus and Ola Howze, Jr., and Kenneth and Crystal McCaslin. Five brothers Joseph Dunigan, Raymond Dunigan, Nathaniel McCaslin, Alphonsa McCaslin and Curtis McCaslin. Three sisters Annie Laura Hargraves, Eleanor Gray and Eloise Butler, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She is also predeceased by three brothers, Frank McCaslin, Henry Dunigan and James Dunigan, and one sister Mary Elizabeth Johnson. A Homegoing Service will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 11 AM at St. Charles AME Zion Church in Sparkill, NY. Visiting will take place on Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 PM at the church.
