RAYMOND - Dorothy Julia (Flannery) McDonald of Raymond, formerly of Brighton, Mass., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 3, 2015, at 91. Born in 1923 in St. Clair, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Nellie (Connors) Flannery.After graduating in 1941 from St. Clair High School she worked for the Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C., where she met the love of her life, Capt. Edward S. McDonald, U.S. Marine Corps, of Boston. Dorothy and Edward were married in 1945 in St. Clair, Pa. After living in Colorado Springs for two years they settled in Brighton, Mass., where they raised their four children. Dorothy was active in the Our Lady of the Presentation Sodality Club, the Brighton Lodge of Elks Emblem Club and the Boys and Girls Scouts. Dorothy worked at St. Elizabeth's hospital in Brighton, Mass., for more than 20 years until her retirement in 1988. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, attending U.S. Marine Corps reunions, wintering in Naples, Fla., and spending time with her family and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Edward S. McDonald Sr., daughter Patricia M. Lucey, sister Mary T. Ryan and brother Leo Flannery.Dorothy is survived by three children, Robert K. McDonald and his wife Kathleen of Raymond, Ellen M. Muller and her husband Joseph of Walpole, Mass., Edward S. McDonald Jr., of Boston and son-in-law Bernard Lucey of Concord. Loving grandmother of Dennis, Brian and Kevin Lucey, Aimee Hayes, Maura, Jonathan and Patrick McDonald, Emily and Julia Muller, and Heather and Conor McDonald. Great grandmother of Joshua, Maeve, Senan and Reese Lucey. services: A Celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at St. Ignatius of Loyola Church in Chestnut Hill, Mass. on April 18, 2015 at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Internment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to Rockingham Nutritional Meals on Wheels, 106 North Road, Brentwood, NH 03833.
