Dorothy J. Baker BRAINTREE Dorothy J. (Pratt) Baker, age 76, of Braintree, formerly of Quincy, died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at home after a long illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Quincy, raised and educated in Quincy schools and was a graduate of Quincy High School. She has lived in Braintree for fifty-four years, previously in Quincy. Mrs. Baker was a homemaker but had also worked as an administrative assistant for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation in Cambridge for seven years, retiring in 1990. She was a lifelong active member of the Fort Square Presbyterian Church in Quincy. She served as a deacon, was a member of the church choir and the Friendship Circle. Mrs. Baker participated in the Vacation Bible School program and helped organize many meals for shut-ins and the needy. For fifty years she belonged to the coffee club which was a group of church members who met monthly for fellowship. Mrs. Baker was author of a cookbook, Baker Family Cook Book. She enjoyed crocheting and was an avid New England sports fan. Mrs. Baker was devoted to her family and always put others first. Beloved wife of the late Walter M. Baker, Sr. Devoted mother of Walter M. Baker, Jr. and his wife Alexandra of Braintree, Edward F. Baker and his wife Mary Ann of Franklin, Derelyn K. Kahler and her husband David of Hanover, Meredith J. Baker of Braintree, Glenn A. Baker and his wife Rebecca of Hingham. Loving grandmother of Walter M. Baker III, Danielle J. Baker, Nicole J. Baker, Jacqueline E. Baker, Steven J. Kahler, Kevin B. Kahler, Darya A. Baker and Andrew A. Baker. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Fort Square Presbyterian Church, 16 Pleasant Street, Quincy, Tuesday, May 12th at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours Monday 4 8 p.m. at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
