LEOMINSTER -- Dorothy H. (Merchant) Abell, 86, of 35A Laurie Drive, died Monday, Jan. 30, in HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster. She was born in Westminster on Dec. 31, 1919, the daughter of Joseph and Regina (Brough) Merchant and had lived in Sterling for more than 20 years before moving to Leominster 40 years ago. Mrs. Abell had worked in the housekeeping department at Fairlawn Nursing Home in Leominster for 27 years before retiring in 1990. She was a member of St. Leo’s Church, enjoyed reading and going for walks. Mrs. Abell is survived by a son, Donald R. Abell and his wife, Carolyn Abell, of Sebring, Fla.; a daughter, Judith A. Boucher and her husband, Hector J. Boucher, of Ashburnham; two brothers, Henry Merchant of Caribou, Maine and Elmer Merchant of Holden; a sister, Doris Lyra of Holden; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband, C. Edward Abell, predeceased her. ABELL -- On Jan. 30, Dorothy H. (Merchant) Abell, 86, of Leominster. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 3, from the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St., Leominster with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Leo’s Church, 128 Main St., Leominster. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fitchburg, at a later date. Calling hours will be Thursday, Feb. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
