Dorothy Elizabeth Brown Bott, 89, North Vernon died at 7:22 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon. Mrs. Bott was the oldest surviving member of the Bott family, and one of eight siblings in the Brown family. A 1935 graduate of North Vernon High School, she worked for Indiana Telephone Corp. for 43 years, first as a telephone operator for 18 years and then cashier and operations manager for 25 years, retiring in the spring of 1980. She was a great cook, enjoyed playing the piano and singing, and everyone felt welcome in her home. She and her husband were married for 60 loving years, and enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the United States. They were both active members of the Smiling Senior Citizens, and Mrs. Bott organized many bus trips for the senior center. She had lived at Jennings Health Care Center in North Vernon since January 2000. Born Feb. 24, 1918, in North Vernon, she was a daughter of Archebald and Margaret Medora Holcomb Bott. On Aug. 24, 1939, in North Vernon, she married Louis Urban "Pete" Bott, who preceded her in death Sept. 5, 1999. Survivors include a son, Thomas L. (Patricia) Bott, North Vernon; two daughters, Donna Greer and Beth (Larry) Sporleder, both of North Vernon; a sister, Martha Elliott Miller, North Vernon; four grandchildren, Cindy Brooks, Columbus, Mitchell Sporleder, Louisville, and Cara Leach and Jerad Sporleder, both of North Vernon; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Aaron Sporleder, and six brothers, Perry, Curtis, Chester, Don, Paul and David Brown. The Rev. Ryan Goode will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home, North Vernon. Burial will take place at Vernon Cemetery.
