Dorothy-Dunn-Forbes Johnston, born in 1918, died on October 10, 2008 at 90 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
DOROTHY DUNN FORBES JOHNSTON Unexpectedly but peacefully in her 90th year on October 10, 2008. A vibrant, loving and beloved woman who broke the gender glass ceiling at BBC Glasgow in the fifties assuming positions in the then male dominated world of radio production. Happily married to Earle who predeceased her, as did her brothers William and Charles. Her humour, smile, warmth, friendship, compassion and multitude of skills will forever be remembered. Born in Scotland, Dorothy crossed the ocean many times before finally emigrating in 1963. She worked for the United Church, the Anglican Church, Vision TV as well as a freelance producer and writer. Dorothy created CFRB's God Show which she produced for five years. She was proud of her book Opening the Closed Circuit which predicted what might happen if cable companies were given geographical monopolies - she was right! Dorothy leaves behind too many loved ones to name. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the University of Western Ontario, London, Ont. to support the Dorothy Forbes Johnston Memorial Award in Broadcast Journalism. And finally: To Absent Friends
