DOVER — Dorothy M. Carr, 89, formerly of Dover, died on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at the Clipper Harbor Home in Portsmouth, N.H.Dorothy was born on May 3, 1922, the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Hamilton) Burgess of Bridgeport, Conn. Dorothy worked as a Secretary for the St. Vincent's School of Nursing. Dorothy was very active in her church and loved her family very much. She was an avid reader, enjoyed refinishing antique furniture. She was a fan of women's tennis and loved animals. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Harry D. Carr., Sr. of Dover; their daughter, Diana Lee and her partner, Carol Doiron of Naugatuck Conn.; their son, David Carr and his wife, Patricia, of Dover; a grandson, Jason Carr and his wife, Jenifer, of Arizona; a granddaughter, Courtney White of Worcester, Mass.; and two great-grandchildren, Rachel and Sarah White. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dorothy's name to the Cocheco Valley Humane Society, 262 County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Chestnut & Third St., Dover, with Father Marc Gagne, officiating.
