->Anderson, Dorothy BuckpittIthaca: Dorothy Buckpitt Anderson, age 95, died in Ithaca, NY on June 3. Dorothy was born and raised in Elmira, NY, the only child of the late Helena and Claude Buckpitt. She attended Elmira schools, receiving her B.A. from Elmira College and her M.A. from Cornell University. Dorothy was an early founding member of the Elmira Society of Friends, and was active as a volunteer in many local organizations during her 75 years in Elmira. She served on the Boards of the YWCA, Child and Family Services, and the Elmira Humane Society. She enjoyed hiking in the hills above Elmira, gardening, playing the piano, and traveling to Europe and Asia to visit family and friends. Over the years, five dogs and fourteen stray cats were lovingly adopted into her home. Throughout her life, Dorothy was committed to advancing the causes of social justice, world peace, and the humane treatment of animals. Married to the late John Douglas Anderson for 34 years, she is survived by her daughter, Joan Sutantyo; grandchildren, Michelle Sutantyo Rau and Jeffrey John Sutantyo; and great-grandson, Kiran Andrew Rau. According to her wishes, there will be no public memorial service. Donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to The Elmira Monthly Meeting Religious Society of Friends, 4575 Pine Hill Road, Corning, NY 14830 or to The SPCA, Route 352, Elmira, NY 14903. Bangs Funeral Home will be assisting the family.
