Obituary of Dorothy-B. Murphy

Dorothy B. Murphy Dorothy B. Murphy, 89, of Venice, Fla., died on March 5, 2011, peacefully, in her own home. She was a 30-year resident of Venice and a summer resident of Canandaigua. Dorothy was born and raised in Rochester. She earned a bachelor's degree in home economics in 1943 from Cornell University, where she was a member of the Tri-Delta sorority. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Robert B. Murphy, a Presbyterian minister. Dorothy actively participated in Presbyterian congregations in Larison's Corner, Titusville, and Pluckemin, N.J.; First Congregational Church in Rushville; and Trinity Presbyterian Church in Venice. Dorothy was a retired preschool teacher; sang in church choirs and local Sweet Adelines groups; and loved to play bridge, read and discuss national politics. She was dearly loved by her family and many, many friends. She raised and nurtured three daughters, Cynthia Williams of Venice, Linda Sneed of Portland, Ore. and Carolyn Landis of West Chester, Pa.; a son, Douglas Murphy of Leesburg, Va.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She lived life to its fullest. At Dorothy's request, memorial donations to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4365 Route 776, Venice, FL 34293; or Tidewell Hospice Inc., 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238 would be much appreciated.
