Doris Royof Acton, MA; grew up in Lowell, MA. ACTON, MA -- Doris Roy lived a simple life, choosing to pursue the spiritual rather than the material aspects of life. Her wealth was in the friends she made, who were drawn to her by the meekness and humility with which she lived. She died peacefully on January 30 at Emerson Hospital, Concord, MA. During her illness, she had the warm support of friends and family as well as that of caring professionals of Emerson's health team.Born August 23, 1932 the sixth child of Joseph E. and Merina (Morin) Roy, she grew up in Lowell, MA, the youngest sibling of Claire (Roy) Beaulieu, Paul, Irene, Robert, and Raymond. She attended Lowell High School, and, after a short time working as a hairdresser and then as a collator at the Courier Citizen, she answered a calling to become a nun. While she ultimately chose a different path, it did confirm a lifelong commitment to submit her life to the will of God. That commitment found expression in many years of faithful service to the priests of the Archdiocese of Boston, managing households for parish rectories from St. Mary Magdalene, Dracut MA, to Gate of Heaven, South Boston MA, and most recently at St. Elizabeth of Hungary in Acton, MA. Upon her retirement she continued to be a communicant and active member of the St. Elizabeth community. She taught CCD, and attended bible study and prayer groups. She enjoyed particularly close community among her many friends in the Legion of Mary with whom she ministered to the sick and elderly by visiting, knitting "Prayer Shawls", and hosting mercy meals for bereaved families of that parish. She is survived by her sister Claire (Lowell, MA), brother Raymond (Virginia Beach, VA) and his wife Carmen, sister in-law Edna (Tewksbury, MA), and numerous nieces and nephews throughout Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire and California.ROY -- Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Church, Dracut MA on Friday, February 4th at 9AM. Viewing and calling upon the family will take place just prior to the funeral service from 7:45-8:45AM also at St. Francis Church. Interment is to be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Chelmsford, MA following the service.
