Stuart, Doris M. WATERVLIET Doris M. Althiser Stuart, 85, of Watervliet, formerly of Albany, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013 at her home. Doris was born in Albany, the daughter of the late Margaret E. Miller Althiser and John L. "Red" Althiser. She lived in the area all her life. She was a graduate of Albany High School, and after high school started and managed the gift shop at the Ten Eyck Hotel in Albany. She then was employed as an insurance underwriter by the Hartford Insurance Co., Rose & Kiernan Insurance, and the Glens Falls Insurance Co. She also was employed by the New York State Dept. of Taxation & Finance, and more recently, and into her eighties by the Colonie Senior Service Centers. Doris was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church. Doris had a special talent and artistic flair for floral design. She had a passionate interest in history and did extensive research on the family's genealogy. She was an avid traveler throughout the U.S., and especially loved visiting Maine. Doris is survived by her son, Bruce Allan Stuart and his wife, Betsy; her son, Gary Keith Stuart and his wife, Bonnie, all of Colonie; her sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Larry Hungerford of Albany; her grandchildren, Christine Stuart Maggard, Jason K. Stuart and his wife, Jennifer Hauver, Brian M. Stuart, and David C. Stuart; her great- granddaughter, Grace Maggard; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Jessica Stuart; her sisters, Ruth M. Heelan and Carol A. Travison; and her mother and father-in-law, Marion and Donald Stuart. Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Thursday morning at 11:30. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Thursday morning beginning at 10:00. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Colonie.
