Doris M. Miller Doris M. Miller HALIFAX Doris Mae (MacLaughlin) Miller, of Halifax, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Boston Medical Center. She was 84 years old. She was the wife of the late Arthur R. Miller Sr. for 60 years. Born in Brockton, to the late Gladys R. (Gould) and Charles E. MacLaughlin Sr., she moved to Halifax in 1937 and was a graduate of Whitman High School, Class of 1944. She was the mother of Arthur R. Miller Jr. of Tampa, Fla., and Hope D. Miller and her longtime companion Paul Tassinari of Swanton, Vt.; sister of the late Charles E. MacLaughlin Jr., Richard W. MacLaughlin and Warren A. MacLaughlin. She is survived by one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also a direct descendant of Samuel Chase, signer of the Declaration of Independence. Doris retired from Ocean Spray Cranberries after 25 years in 1987 as a forklift driver and was a member of Teamster Union No. 653. She was a member of Halifax Congregational Church since 1942 and served in the choir. She was a charter member of the Halifax American Legion Auxiliary Club Post No. 39. She was a Cub Scout den mother and very active in scouting for many years raising funds for the scout trip to go to "DC in 63." She was also a former volunteer and board member for the Halifax COA and president of the Silver Seniors. Doris, with her husband, enjoyed camping and were members of the "In Between Camping Club" and several "Good Sam's" chapters. Doris enjoyed line dancing and volunteering with activities at the Colony House Rehab Center in Abington. She also looked forward to spending time in Vermont with her daughter Hope and Paul and granddogs. Calling hours Monday, Jan. 4, from 4-7 p.m. in the Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home, 4 West Washington St. (at Rte. 58), Hanson, a funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. A graveside service will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Central Cemetery, Halifax. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
