Doris Lillian Davis Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Doris Lillian Davis on December 2, 2004 after a many-years battle with cancer and other health problems. To the very last day, Doris showed the lifelong vigor and tenacity that has carried her over the last 80 years. She leaves to mourn, Sid, her soul-mate and devoted husband of 58 years; sons Stephen (Roslyn) of Winnipeg, Alan (Rosemary) of Calgary; and daughter Brenda (Don) of Connecticut, USA. Born in Edmonton, London, England on April 6, 1925, Doris, after war service with the R.A.F., married Sid, the love of her life in January 1946 and thence concentrated on being a loving, hardworking and conscientious wife and mother. Her ready smile and helping hand reflected her true generosity of spirit, and she was always “Nanny” to her six grandchildren: Amanda, Angela and Shannon in Calgary, Dereck in Winnipeg, Matthew in Steinbach and Bronwen in Connecticut. On October 15, 2004, it gave her great pleasure to hold in her arms her great-grandson Adison Davis, born to Dereck and Roxanne on October 14, 2004. Although for many years she was never without pain, she invariably had a pleasant smile and a warm welcome for everyone, and she often looked back fondly on the numerous happy days spent with Sid and friends at the North Centennial Seniors’ Association. In the years Sid spent with D.N.D. Air Force, the family travelled extensively, especially while in Europe. Also, while living in France, Doris discovered her talent for oil painting and over the years produced numerous fine paintings, many of which are proudly hanging in houses in many parts of Canada and USA; they are mementos of her happy life lived on two continents. The family wishes to extend grateful thanks to members of the Palliative Care staff who attended Doris during her last months, especially to Chris Carlyle, her special nurse; to Lorraine, her home helper; also to Dr. Colin Fletcher for his good advice and services. We are missing you so very much, Doris and the memory of your time with us will be in our hearts forever. For us, you were the light at both ends of the tunnel. Cremation has taken place and in accordance with Doris’ wishes, no formal service will be held. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715
