Obituary of Doris-L. Taylor


December 24, 2003 Doris L. Taylor, 81, 9101 Lewis Point Road, Canastota, died Wednesday afternoon, December 24, 2003, in the Emergency Room of the Oneida Healthcare Center, shortly after her admission as a medical patient. Born in Wes-ternville, on August 7, 1922, she was the daughter of Claude and Mary O'Brien Lewin. A resident of Canastota for the past 48 years, Mrs. Taylor was a graduate of St. Aloysius Academy. She married John B. Taylor in Rome on May 29, 1954. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Taylor was employed with the Madison County Public Health Nursing Service for 12 years. She was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Women's Marine Corps. Mrs. Taylor was a member of the American Legion, Rome Post 24 and the Cortland County Music Park. She especially enjoyed camping as well as knitting and crocheting, and was an avid reader. Surviving besides her husband, John, is one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and James Throndsen of Dawsonville, Georgia; three sisters, and brothers-in-law, Jean and Clarence Kehoe and Beverly and Charles Leffert, both of Rome, and Patricia and Larry Ripley of Rochester; a niece, Jacqueline Wood or North Syracuse and a nephew, Floyd Slover, Jr. of Oneida, whom her husband and she raised; ten grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 300 South Peterboro Street, Canastota, with the Reverend Michael Usborne, officiating. Interment will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery, Rome. Friends may call at the funeral home, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Contributions in her memory, may be made to Wanderers Rest, Juanita Drive, Canastota, NY 13032. Envelopes for this fund may be obtained at the funeral home.
