->Doris JohnsonFAIRFIELD, CT - Doris Johnson, age 89 passed away peacefully on November 5, 2012 after a long illness. She was under Home Hospice care at her summer residence, the Watermark at 3030 Park in Bridgeport. She is survived by her husband Alfred and their children: Chriss Gombos, Richard Johnson, Gary Johnson, and Kathy Panzl. She is also survived by her sisters, Ellen Turner and Betty Brignon; grandchildren, David, Eric and Claire; son-in-law, George Gombos; and daughters-in-law Gayle Johnson and Ellen Johnson.Doris was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. After college, she worked in Washington, DC at the Office of Naval Research. She met her future husband Al at a dance. Upon their first date she became Candy, and he Curley, nicknames that were used by friends and family for many years hence.They married in 1950 and moved to first to Endicott, NY and then to Poughkeepsie, NY. After 20 years in Poughkeepsie they took up permanent residence at the Circle Bay Yacht Club in Stuart, Florida, spending the summers in Madison, CT, Heritage Village in Southbury, CT and most recently at the Watermark.Doris was a devoted and loving mother of four children. She loved to travel with Aruba being one of her favorite destinations. She was always game for new experiences like hot air ballooning, flying in an ultra light plane, sailing on the Long Island Sound and camping in the Adirondacks. She liked hiking, reading, playing cards, shopping, crafting, and baking. Doris courageously fought multiple illnesses over the years with unbelievable strength. She retained her infectious, ever-present, ear-to-ear smile to the end. Her smile matched her warm and friendly personality. She will be missed by many.A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Wappingers Falls at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 12. Following the mass will be a lunch at Richard and Gayle's home in Poughkeepsie.
