DORIS JEAN JOHNSON SMITH EAST CHICAGO, IN Doris Jean Johnson Smith age 85, of East Chicago, IN. God’s final call to come home was received and answered by Doris on June 2, 2011 in Terrace at Skyline of Seattle, WA. The legacy of her life’s season is left to her devoted daughter, Dannette R. Smith of Seattle, WA; loving son, Roy J. (Laverne) Smith, Jr. of East Chicago, IN; sisters–in-law: Mary Winfield and family of Gary, IN, and Janie Smith and family of Bowie, MD; brother-in-law, James “Holy” Moore of East Chicago, IN; special aunt, Sallie DuMaine and family of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren: Emerald L. Smith and Danielle K. Smith of Raleigh, NC, Joshua Smith, Joachim Smith, and Jazzmine Simmons of East Chicago, IN, and Steven (Kimberly) Roundtree and family of Charlotte, NC; special cousins: Richard Johnson, Jr. of Chicago, IL, Harold Warner and Richard “Dickey” Green, M.D, Shari Williams-Jordan, and Michelle (Winfred) Rushing all of East Chicago, IN; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Beatrice Johnson Smith and Daniel Johnson; stepfather, Edward “Mr. Buddy” Smith; husband, Roy J. Smith, Sr.; and stepsister, Thelma Moore. Visitation will be held Friday, June 10, 2011 at First Baptist Church, 4911 McCook Ave., East Chicago, IN from 10:00-11:30 a.m. with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Omega service commencing at 11:00 a.m. The “Celebration of Life” service will begin promptly at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, 3815 W. 39th Avenue, Hobart, IN with Rev. Patrick Gillis, Pastor of New Community Missionary Baptist Church, Hammond, IN officiating. Divinity Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
