CLARK , Doris Minnie (nee Hankin) May 4, 1921 - February 1, 2010 Doris passed away peacefully on February 1, 2010 at the age of 88. Doris is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Fred Lavitt, her grandchildren Mark and Susan Lavitt of Vancouver and Jennifer and James Fredricksen of Calgary. Doris was predeceased in 1984 by her husband of forty-two years, Les of Tuxford, Saskatchewan. "Grandma C" as she was known to her grandkids and "Hank" as she was known to her British friends, was born in London, England. She was the third of four children born to Harry and Lucy Hankin and is survived by her sister Kathleen in France. Les and Doris met in London while he was serving as an artillery gunner in the Canadian Army. They were married in 1942 and moved to Canada at the end of the war. They lived in Moose Jaw where she served as the Secretary-Treasurer for the Canadian Cancer Society. In 2001, Doris moved to the Canyon Meadows Retirement Village in Calgary to be closer to her daughter and family. Doris will be fondly remembered for her quick wit, her English expressions and her love of family. She could often be found enjoying a nice cup of tea, watching curling, quickly conquering the daily crossword or settling in with a good book. Doris will be sadly missed by her family and all those with whom she shared her contagious laugh and love for life. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Calgary Zoo (1300 Zoo Road N.E., Calgary, AB, T2E 7V6) in recognition of Doris' great fondness for elephants or to the charity of your choice. At her request, a private celebration of Doris' life will be held.
