PURDY _ Doreen Jean 1929 - 2005 Doreen Purdy passed away peacefully on Monday, February 14, 2005 at the Sarcee Hospice in Calgary, after a short and courageous fight with cancer. She was 75 years old and will be deeply missed by her son Greg; daughter-in-law Dianna; and grandson John. Doreen was predeceased by her husband Robert and two children (Alana and Jay). She also leaves behind two brothers in British Columbia and will be also missed by many other family members, friends and all who knew her. Doreen was passionate about life and family and loved to travel. Married to an RCMP officer, she had lived in many cities and towns across Canada, from B.C. to Nova Scotia, and always considered Western Canada and B.C. in particular her home. She touched the lives and hearts of many people across the country over these years. A talented artist and homemaker, Doreen enjoyed drawing, quilting and needlepoint, and also became very familiar with the art of Japanese flower arranging. She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed reading about ancient archaeology. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at the Foothills Hospital and the loving nurses and volunteers at the Sarcee Hospice for their exceptional care of Doreen during this difficult period. Also, a very special thank you to Dr. David Falk for his kind care of Doreen and her family and a sincere thank you to Pastor Shane Spannagel for his visits, prayers and spiritual comfort for Doreen during her illness and to the Church Community of Richmond Hill Baptist Church for their support, comfort and prayers. A Memorial Service for Doreen will be held at Richmond Hill Baptist Church, 7251 Sierra Morena Boulevard S.W. (Telephone 403-242-1256) on Friday, February 25, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. At Doreen's request, Interment will take place at Oceanview Cemetery in Burnaby, BC at a later date.
