MIDDLETOWN SPRINGS - Donna Brown White, 101, of Middletown Springs, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Our House in Rutland.Donna was born Feb. 1, 1908, on Stony Brook in Stockbridge, and she has gone to be with her husband and daughter, Gertrude. Donna married Cecil V. White in Pittsfield. He preceded her in death in 1971. They made their home in Poultney and Middletown Springs. Donna was the daughter of the late Myron and Cora S. Brown of Rochester. Those were the days when she rode her horse Billy to school, and loved to tell stories about her horse and the olden days. Donna worked for a number of years sewing in different companies. During the war she worked at the shirt factory in Poultney, then the coat factory in Whitehall, N.Y. She was always a very busy woman who loved her gardens of flowers and vegetables and grew a big patch of potatoes in her late 80s. She loved to hunt and would tell her deer stories to anyone who would listen. Donna was a member of the Poultney Episcopal Church. She made many quilts and did needlework and made rugs and crocheted afghans for her four grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.Donna leaves two children, Myron "Sonny" White and his wife Cecly of Poultney, and Arlene M. Perkins and her husband, Henry of Montpelier; grandchildren in South Dakota, Alaska, Castleton and Poultney; great-grandchildren in South Dakota, Washington D.C., South Carolina, Poultney and Texas; nieces, nephews, many caregivers at Our House, especially Paula and Pat Patoiti that loved her; and our dear friends, Robert Johnson and Gary Moyer.Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10 at the Day Funeral Home, 4 Franklin Street in Randolph, with calling hours from 11 a.m. Tuesday until service time. After the services, the family invites you to join them at the Three Stallion Inn in Randolph for lunch. Burial will be at Ranney Cemetery in Stockbridge. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Middletown Springs Fire Department, Middletown Springs, VT 05757 YES
