Obituary of Donald Peters


Donald C. Age 72 of Corning, formerly of Savona, died Thursday, December 19, 2002. He was born August 12, 1930 to Ralph E. and Pauline Swimley Peters in Bath, NY. He was a 1947 graduate of Savona Central School. His career with Corning Incorporated, formerly CGW, began in June 1951 upon graduation from Broome Tech, Binghamton, NY. He held the position of Sr. Materials Engineer at the time of his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the American Society of Metals, serving one term as President of the local chapter. Don was an active member of Church of the Good Shepard, Savona, serving many years as a member of the Executive Committee. He was a charter member of Glen Region, Sports Car Club of America where he served as the first Activities Director. He held a national Chief Steward license and was the first Glen Region member to service as Governor of Area 11. Other positions held were Assistant Regional Executive, Area 11 Contest Board Chairman, Chief Technical Inspector, Chairman, Licensing Personnel, Northeast Division Court of Appeals, Competition Board and numerous positions within the Steward's program. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Marcia Strait Peters, daughters Celin (Brian) Wood of Painted Post, Kirsta (Gary) Hall of Bath; Grandchildren Katie Wood, Sarah Wood and fiance Michael Cosier, Markus Larson, Elisabeth and Melannie Hall; Great Granddaughter Hailey Marie Cosier; sister Marian Milford, San Gabriel, CA; brothers Lloyd (June), Palo Alto, CA, Harold, Martinez, CA, Roger A., Bath; brother-in-law Douglas (Shelva) Strait, Vienna, VA; sisters-in-law Lois Kleve, Brockport, NY and Sylvia (Richard) Hobbs, Clayton, DE; step brother-in-law Charles (Joyce) Stewart, Risingville; step sisters-in-law Janice (Donald) Witter, Mansville, NY, Carolyn Fournier, and Sharon (Daniel) Clark of Addison; and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours and flowers will be provided by the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Good Shepard Memorial Fund, Church Street, Savona, NY. Funeral will be held at Church of the Good Shepard, Monday, December 23 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Dennis Wienk officiating. Burial will be in Seamens Cemetery, Savona, NY. Arrangements by Seager Funeral Homes, Savona, New York.
