Obituary of Donald Mackenzie

MACKENZIE, Donald - On Thursday May 5, 2005. A man who will be missed by all who knew him, Don was above all a passionate family man. A devoted steward of his beloved forest and Christmas tree plantation, friends honoured him this week with the planting of hundreds of new seedlings. A longtime teacher of Geography at PCVS, Don guided over twenty trips to the High Arctic; this was a spiritual place for him. Don served on the ski patrol, both nordic and downhill, for forty years. At his beloved Lake Weslemkoon, he held the ceremonial "office" of Grand Icthyophagic and Amphibious Loon for two generations. Lovingly remembered by his wife Joyce, son Ian (Laurel), daughters Louise (Mike McGrath), Janice (Gary Ross), grandchildren Bruce, Ed, Ben, Alex, Madeline, Annie and Liam, brothers Lorne (Marion), Dave (Judi), sister-in-law Donna (Dr. Bob Bourne) and his many nieces, nephews and friends. Friends will be received at the COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street Sunday May 8th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at KEENE UNITED CHURCH on Monday May 9th at 1:30 p.m. Reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cross Country Canada (Kawartha Nordic Ski Club Legacy Fund), or to Keene United Church. 5/7/2005- ID6156532 - Peterborough Examiner
