Obituary of Donald Davis


Donald (Don) St Clair Davis Born in 01/02/1918 at Windsor , Nova Scotia , Canada 91, of Bedford, passed away peacefully August 3, 2009, on the 7th floor, Palliative Care VG site surrounded by his loving family and the wonderful staff. Don was born February 1, 1918, in Windsor, Nova Scotia. He was the son of the late Nando and Grace (Chandler) Davis. He was predeceased by his brothers, Earl and Neil; and his daughter, Donna. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Bernice "Lal" (Burke) Davis of Tignish, P.E.I.; sons, Leonard, Halifax; Donald (Don), Vancouver; daughters, Joanne Leslie (Gerry), London, Ont.; Mary Grace Jones, Bedford; and Judith Anne Macaskill (Claude), Halifax; grandchildren, Jennifer MacPhee (Scott), Dartmouth; Jeffrey Davis (Shelley), Vancouver; Kelly Stevens (Todd), Oakville; Christina Bugden (David), Nine Mile River; and Peter Jones, Bedford; and eight great-grandchildren. His troop was chosen to serve in the Musical Ride where he had the great honour of providing escort to the Queen Mother in Regina in 1939 and represented Canada at the World's Fair in San Francisco. He later served the rest of his career in Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. He was an avid curler, enjoyed walks and was always willing to have a good debate on a variety of topics and an afternoon nap was always a priority with a little TV thrown in. After retiring from the RCMP he was employed as chief investigator for the Breweries Institute. In his retirement years, he enjoyed building his dream home in Kentville and travelling back and forth to his cottage at Bayswater where many happy extended family memories were enjoyed. Don and Lal later settled in Bedford. Cremation and funeral service are under the care and directioin of Atlantic Funeral Homes. Graveside service will be held at Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Sackville, on Saturday, August 8, 2009, at 11 a.m. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Ovarian Cancer Society and the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalous of Nova Scotia.
