Funeral service for Don Ritchie Davis, 62, Port Orange, who passed away at home Wednesday April 18, 2007, will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of South Daytona with Pastor Ronnie Barton officiating. Interment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park. His family will receive friends Sunday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church of South Daytona, 2197 Kenilworth Ave. Ritchie, a native of Daytona Beach, was in the first graduating class of Mainland High School when it was moved to Volusia Ave. at Clyde Morris. After high school he worked with the Florida East Coast Railroad as a machinist before beginning his career in law enforcement with the Oak Hill Police Department. He later moved to the Daytona Beach Police Department during which time he graduated from D.B.C.C., allowing him to become a motorcycle officer. Following his years with the D.B.P.D., he worked with the Volusia County Sheriffs Department until 1979 when he moved to North Carolina. During his years in North Carolina he received his bachelor's and master's in criminal justice. He worked with the Cateret County Sheriffs Department for several years and was responsible for starting their search and rescue team for which he received several citations from the governor of North Carolina and the military. Ritchie was a member of First Baptist Church of South Daytona. An avid duck hunter and fisherman, he loved riding his motorcycle and enjoyed sports, especially the Miami Dolphins, North Carolina Tar Heels, Atlanta Braves and NASCAR. He also enjoyed drag racing and for a few years raced his own car at Spruce Creek before it became the luxurious fly-in. He is survived by his wife, Danielle; two sons, Dallas and his wife, Bonnie, Mt. Dora, and Tracy and his wife, Melissa, Daytona Beach; Joe Thompson and Walt Pierce, who Ritchie considered to be his adopted boys; 10 grandchildren, Chris, Nicole, Jessica, Dallas, Skylar, Tiffany, Michael, Charlie, Trey and Van; three great-grandchildren, Bryce, Nina and Benjamin.
