Davis and Stella Florence (Rader) Davis in Niangua, and passed away on March 11, 2013 at Webco Manor in Marshfield. He moved with his father to Jefferson City in 1934 where he married Bertha E. Roberson July 23, 1938 in the Lutheran parsonage. To this marriage three children were born, Donna Reese, Wanda Bryant and James T. Davis. They moved to Niangua in 1940 to the family farm where he milked 35 cows by hand. Don held the office of treasurer and trustee in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marshfield. He was president of the Webster County Cancer Society for 10 years, a member of the Marshfield Lion's Club, president of the Webster County Fair, elected Circuit Clerk and Recorder in 1954, where he served two terms and was elected State Representative in 1962, where he served two terms. In 1967, Don was appointed Director of State Mine Inspections and stayed in this appointment for 17 years until retirement. (Missouri, in the late 1960s and 1970s had the largest mining boom since the gold rush.) He was president of the Mine Institute of America, this was the largest mine safety organization in America, with mine safety people from 30 states and five foreign countries. He was on the board for the Tri-State Mine Safety Association (Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri), was a member of the Holmes Mine Safety Association. When Don took over the State Mine Inspector Agency, the accident frequency rate was 34, the national average was 32 and at the time of his retirement, the accident frequency rate was 5.5 by far the lowest in the United States and the national average was still 32. After retirement in December 1983, Don and his wife, Bertha, went to Alamo, Texas, for the winter, which they enjoyed very much. This was the first time they had spent anytime together for enjoyment. They came home March 1, 1984, they were taking it easy and enjoying life but that all ended May 9, 1984, when his wife Bertha died suddenly. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James T. Davis; his first wife, Bertha Elizabeth Roberson; second wife, Helen Haymes; and special friend, Doris Davis. He is survived by two daughters, Donna Reese and husband Jim, and Wanda Bryant and husband Loren; daughter-in-law Patti Carpenter and her husband Bob; and his grandchildren, Belinda Smith and husband Steve, Elizabeth Richhart and husband Kevin, Twyla Kennemer and husband John, Josh Davis, Justin Davis and wife Jennifer and Chris Bryant and wife Amber; and great-grandchildren, Brian Smith and wife Brittany, Michael Smith and wife Jodee, Abby Elkins and husband Neal, Ashley Kennemer, Joe Davis, Wyatt Davis, Isabelle Bryant and Emmalyn Bryant; great-great-grandchildren Kaylee Elkins, Kenadee Elkins and Shelby Smith; a special niece, Stella Dunavin, husband Ron; and a host of niece, nephews, relatives and friends. Services for Donald Douglas Davis will be 1:00 p.m. Friday March 15, 2013 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marshfield, MO., with Robert Knapp and Nathan Grewe officiating, burial will be in Marshfield Cemetery, Marshfield, MO. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday March 14, 2013 in Day Funeral Home, Marshfield, MO.
