MORROW, Dianne (nee Kaldor)April 19, 1943 - July 4, 2013PhD (Business administration ) La Jolla University, MA Education Simon Fraser University, B. Sc of nursing University of Saskatchewan. Dianne Morrow, teacher, author, nurse, sister, daughter, researcher, curriculum developer, music lover and a magnificent woman passed away suddenly in her home in Vancouver on July 4, 2013. She was a woman of passion, integrity and generosity with a well of love so deep it never ran dry. Her passing leaves an empty space in the many lives she touched. Dianne started her career as a public health nurse in rural Saskatchewan but her love of education led her to teaching nursing at Grey Nuns hospital in Regina, and ground breaking psychiatric nursing in Weyburn. Although she was a prairie girl she loved the west coast and that is where she thrived. She started teaching nursing at BCIT, then Langara College, and created the first occupational health course in BC at Douglas College. She was Educational Coordinator at the Shaughnessy hospital in Vancouver as well. Dianne went back to university to get her masters in education at Simon Fraser with her specialty being learning, evaluation and change. While completing her masters she worked to change the evaluation system from grading to pass/fail at BCIT. Dianne disliked competition in learning and felt her job as a teacher was to make each student strong. She was years ahead of her time. After co- teaching at Simon Fraser she completed her PhD in La Jolla, California with a thesis entitled "Preparing for change in organizations". Dr Koepke from Simon Fraser said of her "My strongest impressions of Dr Morrow are that she is a person of great integrity with high ethical standards, excellent teaching and communications skills, and a genuine dedication to the needs of students and has excellent rapport with them." A private survey in 2001 rated her as the top instructor at Century College. Dianne loved creating curriculum and excelled at it. She developed distance education programs for University of Victoria as well as Athabasca University, embracing the Internet and the move to online education ahead of many of her peers. Her research and view of the world led to the 1988 publication of her book "Destination Neinor". The premise of living life as "Neither Prey Nor Predator" was the guiding principal of a non violent way of dealing with the world, core values that guided her life. Dianne is survived by her mother Ingrid Kaldor, her twin sister Karen Strang with husband Bob, her brother Thane Malabar (nee Alan Kaldor), her sister Connie Kaldor with husband Paul Campagne, and brother Leif Kaldor with wife Leslea Mair, as well as nephews Ian and Andrew Strang, Gabriel and Aleksi Campagne and nieces Sandi and, Teena Strang, Brianna and Teagan Kaldor-Mair, and seven grandnephews and nieces. Dianne created beauty wherever she went. Her house was truly a home and a sanctuary for family and friends. No one was ever turned away. If she had a dollar for every time she picked one or more of us up at the airport she could have kept herself in thrift store bargains forever. Her legendary meals, her warm welcome and her overwhelming kindness enriched the lives of her family and all who had the good fortune to cross her threshold. Dianne was warm, compassionate, stubborn, and so resilient it seems impossible that her extraordinary energy could not be with us anymore. We are going to celebrate her life by gathering together in her favourite place - her back yard, Saturday, July 13 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Call 604-264-9092 for more information or reply to dimorrow@shaw.ca with a message if you wish. If you would like to thank her for what she meant in your life please perform an act of kindness in her name.
