Dee-Evans Davis, born in 1946, died on May 1, 2009 at 63 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Dee Evans Davis, age 63, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2009, with her family at her side. She was the daughter of Helen Sheahan Evans and niece of Marian Rose Sheahan, both of whom preceded her in death. Surviving family members include her son Richard McCarthy Davis, her son Charles Walker and his wife Missy, her son Joseph Walker and his wife Lisa, her daughter Tracy Carswell and her husband Jim, six grandchildren, her brother David Evans and his wife Therese, and her sister Sandra Lully and her husband Phillip. Dee grew up in Augusta and attended Sacred Heart School and Aquinas High School. She earned both a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in English from Augusta College. Her professional life reflected her lifelong love of books and writing, as she worked in public relations at Augusta College before returning to Aquinas to become a teacher. She later found her true calling at the Richmond County Alternative School, where she taught for many years. She was an inspiration to her students and received several teaching awards, including a special dedication from her students. Over the years of her teaching career, Dee touched many lives. Dee lived her life passionately. Her devotion to literature, music and art was surpassed only by her love of travel. She enjoyed close personal friendships with people who lived all over the world, and many of them are probably still keeping the little notes filled with witty observations and funny remarks she sent to them. Never one to follow a straight line, Dee created her own special path in life. She was decidedly unconventional, always engaging, frequently challenging, and above all, kind. There was no limit to Dee's acceptance of and respect for others, and her large collection of friends and loved ones included people from all walks of life. Every one of them would agree that Dee was a free spirit. There can be no replacement for Dee Evans Davis, and she will be missed everyday. Friends and family will gather Monday, May 4, 2009 at 5:30 PM in the garden at Sacred Heart Culture Center to celebrate her life. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Augusta, Inc., Attention: Memorial Contributions, 747 15th St., Augusta, GA 30901.
