NASSAU Deborah J. Murphy passed away, at age 52, peacefully at home on Sunday, February 5, 2006 following a courageous, eleven month battle with cancer. Survived by her husband and best friend, Joseph A. Murphy Jr. of Nassau; three children, Erinn Sanford (Jason) of Nassau, Colin Murphy of Nassau and Joseph A. Murphy III of Albany. Daughter of William J. Smith and the late Thelma Smith of Albia; loving sister of Sandra Zdunczyk (Mark) of East Greenbush and Lynn Deeb (Al) of North Greenbush. Also survived by an uncle, Jack Sheedy of Mechanicville, many nieces and nephews, sister-in-law, Beverly Murphy of Sun City Center, Fla. and a brother-in-law, Edward J. Murphy (Gretchen) of Apollo Beach, Fla. Debbie was predeceased by her in-laws, Joseph and Ruth Murphy. She also leaves behind many caring friends and family, some known and many unknown who loved her dearly, offered many prayers for her recovery and will miss her a great deal. Deb's special friends were Barbara Fausner, Betty Kreiger, Fran Sprague, Dr. David C. Coletti and his wife Judith; Sable, Watson, Jake and Bailey. Following graduation from CCHS, Debbie went to work for the NYSDOCS-Division of Prison Industries, leaving in 1975 to raise her children. For the past 17 years Debbie was a medical secretary for Dr. Coletti and developed many special and caring friends in and out of the medical community. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Susan Weaver, Dr.'s Venkat and Sarada Reddy and Dr. David C. Coletti for their kindness and the love that they extended to Debbie and the family. Thanks also to the staff of the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County and especially Pat Martino, RN, Rev. Susan Schultz, Don Paul Shannon, LCSW and also to Father Thomas Morrette, who was there when Debbie and the family were most in need with prayers and compassion. They are all truly the best caregivers and friends one could hope for in time of extreme need. Special thanks also to the Turtle Clan Mothers of the Iroquois Nations for their prayers for Debbie and the family. Throughout her illness, beginning with her diagnosis, Debbie only once expressed concern for her own well being. Rather, she was overly concerned about those who would be left behind and their continuing on with life. We would all do well to learn a lesson from her thoughts and concerns. Viewing hours will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Ave., Troy (corner of 104th St.). Services Thursday from the funeral home at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in North Greenbush. Burial will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Belle Ave., Troy. In lieu of flowers, donations in Debbie's memory to the Cancer Research Center of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
