HOBE SOUND, Fla. — David A. Wetherby, III, died Sept. 7, 2011, at his residence in Hobe Sound, Fla.Born in Tinmouth, Vt., he moved to Hobe Sound in 1990, coming from Durham, N.H., and had spent time in the Caribbean from 1990-1998 on their boat.He was an electrical engineer, retiring from General Electric (GE) after 38 years of employment.He served in the U.S. Navy post World War II and the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict; he was the recipient of the Bronze Star.He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Hobe Sound.He received his bachelor's degree from University of Vermont in 1951 and earned his Ph.D. while working at GE.He was a member of Institute of Radio Engineers; Seven Seas Cruising Association; North American Hunting Club and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Jeanne W. Wetherby of Hobe Sound; children, Mary Pat Callihan of Orange Park, Fla., Shari Wetherby of Redmond, Wash., Kathy Bentley of Spokane, Wash., Deb Wetherby of Mill Valley, Calif., David A. Wetherby, IV of Berwick, Maine; sister, Lucille Fiske of Cuttingsville, Vt.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph and Ola Wetherby.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hobe Sound Branch Library, 10595 SE Federal Highway, Hobe Sound, FL 33455.Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 6 p.m., Sept. 17, at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Hobe Sound, with the Rev.
