Martin, David R. BETHLEHEM David R. Martin died on Friday, April 18, 2014. David was born in Albany on November 30, 1926, the son of Ada (Stoddard) and David R. Martin. He graduated from Watervliet High School in 1944 and Clarkson University in 1951. David served in the United States Army in 1945 and 1946. He was on his way to the Pacific when the Japanese surrendered on August 14, 1945. He later served for one year in the Philippines. David was employed by A.C. Nielsen for 40 years, working in Chicago, New Hampshire, Connecticut and New York State. He was an active member of the McKownville United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1520. He was also an ambassador at the Albany International Airport from 1999 to 2012. David was predeceased by his parents, son Mark and sisters, Wilma Blum and Ruth Gallagher. David is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pauline L. (Blundy) Martin; three sons, Peter D. Martin of Guilderland, John B. Martin and his wife Brenda and their son Alden of Concord, N.H., and Steven F. Martin and his wife Joan and their children, Scott and Christina of Guilderland; sister, Mabel (Mibs) Follett and her husband Don Follett of Easton, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. All have added joy to his life. David enjoyed sports, music and loved to travel, meeting people from different countries and cultures. He was proud of his sons and their wives and all of their achievements. His three grandchildren were a great joy in his life. He was Scott's number-one baseball fan and faithfully attended as many games as possible. Scott played the trumpet at David's 80th birthday party after one month of trumpet lessons. David enjoyed Christina's ballet recitals and her interest in art and playing the cello. David was fascinated with Alden and his interest in music and love of the Beatles, and now acting. David was blessed with many friends in England and America, and had many great times visiting friends at Cape Cod, Mass., and Sacandaga Lake. David enjoyed fantastic vacations in America, Britain and Europe on tours and with British and American friends plus family cruises. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the McKownville United Methodist Church, 1565 Western Ave., Albany, NY 12203.
