ALBANY David Patrick McGill died at St. Peter's Hospital on Thursday, July 15, 2004. He was 52 years old and had been in ill health for several years. David was the second of three sons born in Troy, N.Y. to Michael Robert McGill and Catherine Grimley McGill. Both parents and his younger brother, Paul Joseph McGill, predeceased him. He attended Catholic Central High School in Troy and earned his bachelor of arts degree at Excelsior University (then Regents College) in 1994. He worked for the NYS Tax and Finance Department. In the 1990s, he was a member of the parish council at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and a Eucharistic minister there. He was also a tutor for Literacy Volunteers. During the 1970s and 80s, he volunteered at the Gertrude Stein Book Collective and wrote film reviews for Capital District Alive. Friends will remember his effervescent smile and his enthusiastic interest in books, theater, film and in helping people in need. He is survived by his partner of 23 years, Joseph F. Shubert of Albany; his brother, Michael McGill of Schenectady; and his beloved miniature schnauzer, Nicky Arnstein. A memorial Mass will be held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10. Interment will be in Holy Spirit Cemetery, North Collins, N.Y.
