David-Osborne Martin, born in 1922, son of Samuel-Jones and Mamie-Garrison, father of Leesa Bowman, David Charles, Donald, Sara Jane Martin, Emily Anne, John Robert and Mary Carolyn, died on February 18, 2011 at 88 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
<!-- FH = Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel -->David Osborne MartinPendletonDavid Osborne Martin, 88, of 200 Martin Lane, widower of Mary Richey Martin, died Friday, February 18, 2011 at AnMed Health Medical Center.Born November 4, 1922 in Pendleton, he was the son of the late Samuel Jones Martin and Mamie Garrison Martin. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II where he served as a member of the 78th Division, Infantry, in European Theater for 15 months and directed 38 men in loading, aiming, and firing M-1 carbine rifles. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Silver Star, Purple Heart, American Theater Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the W.W. II Victory Medal. Mr. Martin was a 1943 graduate of Clemson College with a B.S. Degree in Agricultural Education. He began his career as an educator, teaching W.W. II Veterans at Pendleton High School in the Agricultural Program. He was a Dairy Farmer, and was a member of the Pendleton Farmer's Society and served on the Board of Southeast United Dairy Industry Association for many years. He loved the land, and taught his children and grandchildren to be good stewards of our natural resources. He enjoyed farming, growing, and sharing his produce. Mr. Martin was a member of Welcome Baptist Church where he was Deacon Emeritus and received his 80 year membership pin in October, 2010.Survivors include three daughters, Mary Carolyn Harris and husband, John Robert Harris of Fair Play, Emily Anne Martin of Anderson, and Sara Jane Martin Acevedo and husband, Donald of Pendleton; one son, David Charles Martin and wife, Leesa Bowman Martin of Pendleton; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Ann Inabnit of Burlington, NC.In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Reid Martin.Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by William R. West, Jr. Burial will be in Welcome Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Campbell Patriots Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson.
