David Michael (Mike) Martin, 58, passed away at Manatee Memorial Hospital on Thursday, January 22, 2015 due to complicated illnesses. He was born, September 5, 1956, son of William A., Jr. and Hilda M. Martin. He graduated from Southeast High School and attended the University of Florida, where he was a member of the marching band. He also attended Manatee Community College (now State College of Florida), where he was a member of the Madrigals. Mike was a member of Samoset Baptist Church, a devout Christian and served faithfully there for a number of years. Mike was a multi-talented person with many varied interests. He was a kind, gentle individual and was called "the gentle giant" by some family members. He had great concern for others and ministered greatly to family and friends. He loved nature, animals and his surroundings. Mike leaves a huge void and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his parents, Bill and Hilda Martin; brother, Mark William and nephew, Jared Burns Martin of Bradenton; aunt, Jean Kathryn (Ed) Fernald of Tallahassee; roommates, Jack Knop and Lolita Rudy and nieces and nephews in Florida and Virginia. Service will be January 26 at First Baptist Church of Samoset. Visitation at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am. Reverend Roland Davis officiating.
