FARMINGDALE - David Lee Smith, 56, of Farmingdale, passed away at Androscoggin Hospice House on Tuesday, October 28, after a long, courageous battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma.David was born to the late Harry and Helen Smith, January 26, 1958, in Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Washington High School in Kansas in 1976, where he was an all-star athlete in Football, Basketball and Track. After high school, David was a semi-professional Motocross racer. At 21, David moved to Maine where he was able to realize his dream of having an active and powerful lifestyle. He became an avid fly fisherman, cyclist and all-around outdoors-man. Later in life he rediscovered his passion for motorcycles, and his Harley Davidson became his favorite pastime.David worked for Bath Iron Works for 35 years. He always said that working at Bath Iron Works gave him a sense of community and fellowship. The comradery he felt with his coworkers helped strengthen his sense of humor and positive outlook.David is survived by his daughter, Elaine Marie Smith; and granddaughter Maizie Rose Blodgett. He is predeceased by his brother, Michael Swanson Smith.Through everything that David endured as he battled cancer, David remained a pillar of life and hope. His strength and courage was contagious, and he could often be found helping others focus their energy in a positive way.
