DAVID L. BECKER II MORAVIA - David L. Becker II, 18, of Duryea Street, Moravia, passed on unexpectedly Sunday, January 31, 2010, as a result of injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident. David was born March 10, 1991 in Syracuse, NY. He was the son of David L. Becker I of Syracuse and Valerie Daloia Becker of Moravia. He was a graduate of Moravia High School, the class of 2009. Before attending Moravia Central Schools, David attended Phoenix School District, where he was involved in karate, for which he earned a brown belt. He was also active in Boy Scouts, for which he achieved the Arrow of Light, and he was a saxophone player and made all county chorus. In Moravia, he was a member of the soccer team. He was known at Moravia High School as someone who was passionate about the arts and who enjoyed using his talents to help others. His other interests were photography, videography and computers. He created a student safety video for the Moravia Central School District bus garage that new bus drivers are required to watch. David found strength in two teachers from the school district that supported his talents and understood him as a person, Mr. Ken Welgoss and Ms. Shae. He often called these teachers his idols. David attended Alfred School of Technology in the Fall semester and transferred to Cayuga Community College, where he was studying Computer Information Systems. He decided to transfer back to the area, as he described, "to be with his family every day". He was described as "the prince among the princesses" by his grandmother, Shirley Fatti, because he had four sisters and two moms to protect. He was described by his mom as "wise beyond his years and an old soul". He will also be greatly missed for his sense of humor, evident by the short films he and his friends created. He will also be missed for his willingness to always give of himself and think of others first. He was into "peace on earth" and often seemed too good for this world. One of his favorite songs was "Imagine" by John Lennon. He enjoyed music and writing, was a computer technician, loved to play "WOW", and was involved in the work study program at Cayuga Community College. In addition to his mom and dad, David's wonderful heart and soul will be missed by all who cherish his loving memory. He is survived by his "second mom", Susan Gilmore of Moravia; four sisters, Jessica, Renee, Chelsie and Ashley Becker; his girlfriend, Megan Hamilton; his maternal grand-parents, Joseph (Lorraine) Daloia of Syracuse, and Shirley (Bruno) Fatti of Camillus; paternal grandfather, Jack (Dee) Becker of Rochester; a nephew, Evan Waldron; aunts, Elisa Lambert and Mary Becker; uncles, William Daloia and Jack Becker; his godfathers, Kevin and Marshall Meaker; cousins, Ian Synder and Marissa Lambert; and other cousins, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by a paternal grandmother, Barbara Becker; and great-grandparents, Anthony and Elsie Daloia. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter & St. John's Episcopal Church, Genesee St., Auburn. Friends are invited to call on the family, Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South St., Auburn. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be forwarded to the family to establish a scholarship fund in David's memory at Cayuga Community College.
