David E. Williams New Hartford David E. Williams, 67, of New Hartford, died December 10, 2010, after a three year battle with cancer. He was born December 31, 1942, in Utica, son of the late William R. and Hazel Mootz Williams. He graduated from Utica Free Academy and Utica College. He married Carol Preston July 24, 1967, at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Utica. Dave was an Oneida County Probation Officer for 35 years and, at the end of his career, was in charge of the PINS Program and was well known throughout many of the area schools. He was very much respected in his profession because of his knowledge and experience. He truly felt he had a positive impact on many lives over the years. Dave was a member of Plymouth Bethesda United Church of Christ until recently when he was baptized in the Catholic Church. He was an avid tennis player, having played for both UFA and Utica College, and belonged to many area leagues. He was also the Coach of Notre Dame High School and then the New Hartford High School Tennis Teams until his illness. He also coached New Hartford Youth Hockey and played with the old-timers league. He enjoyed his 1952 Hudson which he showed at many cars shows and had many friends among car collectors. Daves most enjoyable times were spending the summers together with his family as they traveled to different lakes where he enjoyed fishing and kayaking with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of New Hartford; his three beloved sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew and Elizabeth (Betsy) Cox Williams, of Whitesboro, Gareth (Gary) and Linda Bartlett Williams, of Oriskany Falls, and Jason and Lori Giammattei Williams, of Fredericksburg, VA; nine grandchildren, Abigail, Madeleine, Stephanie, Victoria, Bethany, Emily, Evan, Megan and Gwyneth; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Alice and Norman White, of New Hartford, Marilyn and Reginald Rahn, of Whitesboro, and Wendy Williams, of Sauquoit; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two nephews, William White and Mark Rahn; his stepmother, Edith Hayes Williams; and a special mother-in-law, Anna Preston.
