David Filip Domizi III, age 76, of Guilford, Conn., Cambridge, Md., and Athens, died on November 20, 2012.David was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1936. As a teenager, he set national records with hand gliders he designed, and built the model CL Navy Carrier Guardian, which won the Nationals in 1953 and again in 1954. His model is now in the National Model Aviation Museum. He graduated from Rocky River High School in 1954, received his BME from Cornell University in 1959, served in the U.S. Navy until 1964, then served in the U.S. Navy Reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1966.David founded Dyno Corp. to prepare sports cars for racing. These cars won at least 4 National SCCA Championships, and he personally set a class lap speed record at the Old Watkins Glen Race Course. He later founded Lasercut, Inc. to design and build high-powered laser cutting systems, placing more than 130 systems around the world before his retirement. Lasercut was first in the U.S. to cut one-inch steel with a laser.A visionary designer and creator, he also built a boat, a house and a race car, and designed a mechanical seaweed harvester for his wife's company that helped to protect the resource. He loved to play the piano and duplicate bridge (Life Master).David is survived by his wife, Susan; his sons, Scott and David; David's wife, Denise; and his beloved grandchildren, Roxanne and Lucille.There will be a gathering of family and friends on December 8.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Guilford Interfaith Ministries (www.gimct.org) or the SladeChild Foundation (www.sladechild.org).
