Obituary of David-Burton Henderson


HENDERSON David Burton Henderson, age 73, of Topeka, Kan., passed away on Friday, April 28, 2006. David was born March 16, 1933 in Pittsfield, Mass., the son of Russell and Elma Hyde Henderson. David graduated from Harding High School in 1951 and from Washburn University in 1986 with a bachelors degree in Respiratory Therapy. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as an E-7 master sergeant in 1977 and Stormont Vail Hospital in 1993. He also worked for R.D. Anderson Enterprises and USD 437 as a bus driver. He was active in Boy Scouts. He helped organize the Mission Township Volunteer Fire Department and retired as a volunteer. He married Doris E. Barge on August 14, 1954 in Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Ian Douglas Henderson. Besides his wife, survivors include his son, Vinton Henderson and his wife, Christine, Valdosta, Ga.; daughter, Leslie Smith, Kansas City, Mo.; daughter, Narda McClain and her husband, Tim, Westminster, Colo.; daughter, Martha Williams, Topeka; two grandsons, Sterling Williams and Dahren Wayman. He will lie in state Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
