The Rev. David Greene Anderson, 88, of 700 E. Second Ave., died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Palmetto Health Baptist Easley.Born in Hong Kong, China, of missionary parents, the Rev. Anderson's father was the late Dr. Park Harris Anderson, missionary, author, and teacher for thirteen years at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. His mother was the late Pansy Greene Anderson.He was educated at the following schools: Shanghai American High School in Shanghai, China, Furman University in Greenville, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, La.The Rev. Anderson was ordained to the ministry in 1936 at Pendleton Street Baptist Church, Greenville, pastored for sixty-four years, and all but one church was in South Carolina.He held pastorates at: George's Creek Baptist Church, Easley, Calvary Baptist Church, New Orleans, La., Tabernacle Baptist Church (presently, North Trenholm Road Baptist Church), Columbia, First Baptist Church, Williston, First Baptist Church, Union, Charleston Heights Baptist Church, Charleston Heights, Cooper River Baptist Church, North Charleston, and First Baptist Church, Easley -1963 - retired in January 1980.The Rev. Anderson preached in over 120 churches throughout the Southern Baptist Convention, and in three missionary Crusades - Alaska, Japan and the Philippines.The denominational positions he held were member of General Board of SC Baptist Convention, two terms as Trustee of Anderson Junior College (Now Anderson College), two terms as Trustee of Baptist College of Charleston (Now Charleston Southern University), two terms as Trustee of SC Baptist Hospital, Chairman of Nominating Committee of SC Baptist Convention, Past Moderator of Charleston Baptist Association, Past Moderator of Piedmont Baptist Association, Easley, Twelve (12) years as Trustee of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, N.C., President of SC Baptist Convention - two terms - 1961-62 and 1962-63.He was a member and past secretary of the Board of Directors of Charleston County Red Cross Chapter.The Rev. Anderson received an honorary degree, Doctor of Divinity, May 1978, from Charleston Southern University.He was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by former Governor David Beasley.The Rev. Anderson was a member of First Baptist Church, Easley, where he belonged to the Coley Cleveland Sunday School Class.Surviving are his wife of sixty-four years, Dorothy Smith Anderson, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sander Anderson Drummond, and her husband, Larry J., of Humble, Texas; a son, Douglas King Anderson, of Sarasota, Fla.; a grandson, Michael J. Drummond, of Humble, Texas; a sister, Theresa Anderson, of Darlington; a special friend, Dr. Robert P. Jardin, of Sarasota, Fla.; and special nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of First Baptist Church, Easley, with the Rev. Dr. John Adams, the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Batson, and the Rev. Dr. Carter Morgan officiating. The committal service will be private.Honorary Escorts will be the Coley Cleveland Sunday School Class, and the Fidelis Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Easley.Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Narthex of First Baptist Church, Easley, prior to the service.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 300 E. First Ave., Easley, SC 29640.The family is at the residence.Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown is assisting the family with arrangements.
