ANDERSON _ David James April 1, 1940 - March 13, 2007 It is with great sadness that David's family announces his passing in Calgary on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 66 years. David is survived by his loving partner Jane Walker; his son Tim Anderson and his partner Doug Brown and his daughter Trish Anderson. Uncle Dave, or "UD" as he was called, will also be remembered by his close and loving family, Nev, Jackie, Shelley, Bob, Kelly, Kari, Robbie, Dillon Anderson, and Lorraine, Ward, Matthew, Dee. Alexa, Luke, Jon, Rishma, Liam, Dave and Eve McLean, Patti Howell and Jen, Dave and Ethan Fraser. David was predeceased by his parents Robert and Harriet Cecilia "Dolly" Anderson. Dave was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and he lived in Calgary for most of his life. He attended Central High School and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity at the University of Alberta where he received a degree in Commerce. He completed his Bachelor of Education at the University of Calgary. Dave was fondly known to his friends as "Beef" during this time. He loved to play sports including football, basketball and rugby and in his later years he was a keen golfer. Dave devoted his life to his family, raising his two children, Tim and Trish, and caring for his parents. Those who knew Dave knew how dedicated he was to his children and their friends who became frequent and extended house-guests at "Mr. Dave's Youth Hostel" on 49 Avenue. He was passionate about teaching high school students at Ernest Manning, Central Memorial, Crescent Heights, EP Scarlett and Forest Lawn. "Super Dave", as he was known to his teaching colleagues, made lifelong and important friendships throughout his years teaching. Dave loved coaching high school football, rugby, volleyball and, his favorite, basketball. He could also be counted on to sponsor many other school activities and clubs throughout his career. After Dave retired, he dedicated himself to fitness and became known as "Deep Water Dave" because of his daily aquatic sessions at the Glenmore and Killarney pool where he met a new group of dear and close friends. He was also an avid gardener and photographer and loved to travel. Dave scaled the Great Wall of China, walked up and down New York City, visited Guatemala, toured the Great Barrier Reef, and other exotic locations. Later in life, he was very involved in Liberal politics and ran the Liberal party campaign for Calgary Elbow. Dave's commitment to social justice and the best opportunity for youth, seniors and vulnerable populations led him to volunteer projects where he made many close friends and acquaintances. It was one such occasion where he met Jane, "the light of his life". In their two years together, they shared a special love and dedication to one another as well as blending family and friendship circles. Funeral Services and a Celebration of Dave's Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) today, March 16, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com .
