MITCHELL, David Allen December 18, 1928 - April 16, 2011 As the sun set on Saturday, April 16th, David Allen Mitchell, surrounded by loved ones, peacefully took his last breath. With the passing of this larger than life individual, we lose a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. David leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Helen; daughters, Catherine (Greg) and Tracy (Tony), and son Dave (Trudy Baby); grandchildren, Melissa (Dylan), Jordan (Hazel) and Tanner; great grandson Liam. He is also survived by his sister Joy (Dennis) and numerous nieces and nephews. As a dedicated employee, Dave made many friends during his 44 years with BC Tel; he was also the archery instructor at Stanley Park where he met the love of his life, "Helcha". On any given day, Dave and his family, along with neighbourhood children could be found at the park, not only for the archery but for sunny picnics, a lot of laughter and on the return trip home, more often than not, a stop for ice cream. In the eyes of many people, Dave is Santa Claus and his picture can be found on mantles across the Lower Mainland. Dave was an avid Hot Rodder, movie extra and his charm and charisma allowed him to speak with people of any generation and culture and become fast friends. He is now in a place where he has been reunited with great friends, family, favourite cars and his two beloved dogs. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life for Dave on Saturday, April 30th at 1pm at Hamilton Harron Funeral Home, located at 5390 Fraser Street, Vancouver.
