Obituary of Darlene-Elzbeth-Swallow Peterson


PETERSON, DARLENE ELZBETH SWALLOW, 92, died April 22, 2011 at The Episcopal Church Home, Louisville. She was born November 7, 1918, in Denver, CO, the daughter of George Guy Swallow and Minnie Lee Dawson Swallow. In March, 1937, she married Warren Norris "Pete" Peterson in Kansas City, KS. They had one son, Carl Warren Peterson, who died in 1991. Warren died in 2007. Darlene moved to Louisville during World War II. She worked in retail and particularly enjoyed being a clothing buyer at Levy Brothers, Selman's and Zellner's. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and formerly of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. For many years she was involved in the Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Kentucky. Darlene had an inquiring mind and an avid interest in each person she met. Friendships were dear to her. In addition to her parents, husband and son, Darlene was preceded in death by her brother, Marion Phyllis Swallow; and sisters, Morene Elizabeth Swallow Jones and Maxine Eilene Swallow. Surviving are her grandson, Timothy Andrew Peterson (Martha Fleming Hoyle) and great-granddaughter, Sophie Lauder Peterson of Illinois; her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Lauder Peterson Blanchard (William J.) of Ohio; brothers, James V. Swallow (Cindy), of Arizona and Joseph R. Swallow (Sharon), of Oregon; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Peterson Clenny, of Kentucky and Marie Swallow, of Texas; and nieces and nephews in various states. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Arch L. Heady and Son, 7410 Westport Road. Interment of the ashes will occur Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park Cremation Garden, 4400 Bardstown Road. The memorial service and reception will follow at 3 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 9616 Westport Road, with The Rev. Anne Vouga officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, to The Episcopal Church Home Women's Board, or to Hosparus - Hospice of Louisville.
